WETTKAMPFMODUS
Both men and women compete in a qualifying race as well as a final. The races are held as mass start, with small advantages for the top finishers from the qualifying races in the finals. The starting fields each consist of ten world-class biathletes. The athletes compete on ski rollers on an approx. 2.3 km long circuit course through the city of Dresden and along the Elbe. The start/finish and the shooting range are located in the Heinz-Steyer Stadium. No reload cartridges are available to the athletes. If one or more targets are missed, the athlete must complete a ‘penalty lap’ for each shooting error.
SHOOTING RANGE
The shooting range that was specially set up for this unique event in the new Heinz-Steyer Stadium, is an original 50 m small-bore shooting range. It therefore corresponds in quality to the constructions used in the official winter competitions of the International Biathlon Union and differs from these only in the number of shooting ranges (ten in total). The atmosphere in the shooting range area is unique due to the grandstand placed directly behind it and is sure to set hearts racing. The grandstand has a capacity for over 4,000 people. There are also additional spectator areas in the stadium and along the course.
